Another two Dominican students benefit from Scotiabank scholarships

Scotiabank Dominica, as part of its outreach program, has again this year awarded two scholarships for secondary school education. The successful candidates are Khahill-Akil A T Richards and Serena Macy Joseph, both of the Convent Preparatory School. The scholarships were awarded to two eligible children of customers of the Bank.

In September 2014, Khahill will attend the St Mary's Academy. His parents Karleen V. Destouche Richards and Anthony Richards, who are part of the Scotiabank family for almost two decades, were delighted by Scotiabank's contribution towards their son's education. Khahill's Mom was particularly happy because, according to her, "It will make him understand that hard work really pays off". Khahill is from the tranquil community of Copthall and is a well-rounded individual. He plays the piano, recorder and drums. He plays karate and football and is also a member of the Upper Room Prayer Group where his parents attend. He represented the Convent Preparatory School in Karate and 4H Club activities. Khahill told the Management of Scotiabank that he will make Scotiabank proud as he continues to excel in both academics and extra-curricular activities.

Serena Macy Joseph will attend the Convent High School in September 2014. Serena lives with her parents Steve and Marvlyn Joseph in the village of Capuchin on the North of the Island. Marvlyn has been with the Scotiabank family from 1989 (Scotiabank opened its doors in Dominica on September 19, 1988). The Management and staff of Scotiabank are indeed very pleased to award this Scholarship to our long standing member. Serena has made her own written commitment to Scotiabank when she said "I promise to always attend school … get better and better grades while at high school and I will make your bank proud ..."

Through Scotiabank's Bright Future Programme, the Bank has made a commitment to assist young people through education, culture, health and sports. The Bank is the longest-standing sponsor of cricket in the region and title sponsor of Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket.

In June, 2014, two of Scotiabank's scholars graduated from Secondary School; Mekerie Francis from the Convent High School and Alyah Leblanc from the Dominica Grammar School. "We are proud to have been part of this significant occasion which serves as tangible evidence of Scotiabank's presence not only in the community but in the lives of our youth" said Jim Alston, Scotiabank's Country Manager in Dominica.
