If a friend in need is a friend indeed, then China and Dominica are going through extraordinary ways to demonstrate that to the rest of the world.

Today it was the turn of the Chinese Red Cross to take the spotlight when it expressed "heartfelt sympathy" to Dominicans who were adversely affected by the floods of last December.

"China and Dominica are friendly countries," said Counsellor Wong of the Chinese Embassy at a brief ceremony at the Dominica Red Cross. "We are partners supporting each other."

Director Kathleen Pinard-Byrne accepted the cheque of US$30,000 on behalf of Dominicans who lost homes and belongings during the flood.

"It is always welcoming news when we receive aid to help in these situations," said Permanent Secretary Helen Royer.
