Unpredictability is the main ingredient; sometimes the stuff is half cooked, mainly rare and raw; but occasionally a great dish comes through and the audience asks for helping after helping after helping, right up to the finals.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the crazy annual Calypso Eliminations show which usually kicks off the calypso season in Dominica. And the 2014 event takes place tonight, Saturday 4th January, at the Krazy Kokonuts. It's never too late to register, if you dare.

"Over the years we have had persons coming on the same day or the same night while the competition is going on," said Davidson "Observer" Victor, the Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA). "They come back stage, they fill the form, they have their song, they ready but for some reason they did not register before and they decide they want to sing."

Calypso fans love the craziness, the "boy-mister-mad" fun and so hundreds look forward to the treat.

"That's why people flood to the Eliminations. The Eliminations every year is packed. This is one of the reasons: you never know what is going to happen on that night," Observer told DBS news today. "The characteristics to the x-t-r-e-m-e that coming together on that night."

Fifty calypsonians have registered, so far, to participate.
