Tropical Storm Danny is likely to become the region's first hurricane by Sunday or Monday, forecasters say.

Overnight Tropical Storm Danny changed slightly as it headed towards the Lesser Antilles; the storm is located about 1595 east of the Windward Islands.

Danny is currently moving towards the east at about 12 miles an hour; maximum sustained winds are about 50 miles per hour.

Danny is expected to strengthen a to a category two hurricane on Sunday before weakening to a category one storm as it gets closer to land.

"Danny could be threat to land late Sunday or early Monday," weather forecaster Marshall Alexander told State-owned DBS radio this morning. "The system is expected to pass just north of Dominica most likely as tropical storm or a category one hurricane."

Residents are advised to keep a close watch on the progress of Tropical Storm Danny, Marshall said.
