"On behalf of the Government and people of Dominica, I would like to congratulate Archbishop Kelvin Felix on being named Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Francis' decision to select Archbishop Felix as one of 19 new Cardinals from around the world shows wisdom and foresight in expanding the church in developing countries.

From his ordination as a priest in 1956 Archbishop Felix has served with distinction throughout his long career in the Catholic Church. Having been ordained Archbishop in 1981 and serving in that position for twenty-seven years overseeing the dioceses of Castries, St. Georges and Roseau Archbishop Felix has been a shining example of what a Catholic priest should be.

We in Dominica are very proud or Archbishop Felix's achievements in the Catholic Church. His decision to return home after retiring as Archbishop demonstrated his love for country and desire to play his part in the spiritual development of his people. On behalf of the Government and people of Dominica, in particular, the Catholic Community, we congratulate Cardinal select Felix and wish him great success in his new vocation. We will continue to pray for him asking God to give him the guidance he needs to continue his Ministry."
