Kelcia, Keianna in Kingshill and Salisbury

Two of the seven beautiful ladies who dream of becoming Dominica's Queen in 2015 took steps towards the throne when they were introduced to their potential "subjects" during village launches here on Saturday. Three more join them today, Sunday.

Kelcia Righton, 21, of Kingshill sponsored by the Fort Young Hotel and Keianna John, 22, of Salisbury sponsored by LIME, Discover Dominica Authority and Dominica Festivals Committee were launched on December, 27, 2014 at their respective villages.

"I am of the firm belief that the will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential are the keys to unlocking personal excellence", Righton said at the launching, at the Kingshill Playing Field, adding that she has embraced "the platform customer service as a lifestyle."

"Good customer service involves developing bonds through interactions with clients which will hopefully lead to long term relationships it is the foundation of such relationships that will positively impact our individual lives, our society and our economy," Righton added.

"It is for these reasons we need to embrace customer service as part of our lifestyle and our culture as we continue to promote tourism and strive to achieve the pledge that Tourism is Everybody Business," she further stated.

"Today is Miss Righton's day, today is Kingshill's day. I must say the people of Kingshill they must be very proud," Joshua Francis, the newly elected Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau South Constituency said to the gathering. "Miss Righton is of impeccable beauty and she has exemplary character and her theme is customer service it is not by accident when you look at Miss Righton, when you look at her disposition, she is very warm, she is an intelligent person and all she requires right now is your support.

"Therefore, I urge each and every person in Kingshill to come out and support Miss Righton. We must support her and I want her to know she has my support, she has all of our support.

"I urge her to be a good listener and improve step by step until she gets to the throne."

Meanwhile, about two hours later at the Salisbury's contestant Miss Keianna John said at the village launch at the Salisbury Primary School that she's passionate about raising awareness about domestic violence.

"Growing up I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing this horror and like all dramatic experiences it has left it scars. However, it has also ignited a fire in me which has made me who I am today and I want to share this fire with you all as I invite each of you to join me about raising awareness, in fuelling the fight about domestic violence," she said.

Parliamentary Representative for the Salisbury Constituency Hector John, who's also Keianna John's uncle, told the young contestants that they are now being seen as ambassadors to Dominica and should take that role seriously.

"Not only before and during the queen show but this experience will be a life-changing experience as young women; people see you differently, they see more of you and you have to show them more," said Hector John.

He added: "Your message and platform, it doesn't stop here…whatever you choose as your platform you must try to push it positively not only on the radio but in your communities, in your schools, to ensure that your platform go on and be successful". Today Sunday, Normanna Jno. Baptiste, Miss EMS, is scheduled to be launched at the Tarrish Pit Playing Field from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm. An hour later, from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm, Odessa Elie, Miss Big Edge /Miniya's 7-11 will be introduced to Bath Estate residents at the Bath Estate Hard Courts. And Beyandra Blanchard, Miss PetroCaribe, will face the villagers of Pointe Michel at Marshan's Bar from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

February 6, 2015 is the date of the Queen Show pageant.
