Lara visits storm-ravaged Dominica

Brian Charles Lara, the Prince of Trinidad, came and gazed in disbelief at the destruction that Erica left behind in Dominica.

The former West Indies captain and world record holder who was appointed Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Trinidad, today visited Colihaut, Coulibistrie and Checkhall , areas severely affected by Tropical Storm Erika.

Over a few hours on 27 August 2015 Tropical Storm Erika killed more than 20 persons and caused about a billion dollars in damage to homes, roads and bridges.

Trinidad and Tobago's new Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley sent Lara here to assess Dominica's needs and determine how the oil-rich twin island republic could assist.

"My Prime Minister is very concerned, it is demonstrated by my presence here. The entire Caribbean stands behind Dominica during this time of devastation. I've got quite a few fans here, and there are Trinbagoinans who are happy that we are willing to do something," Lara told Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit at a meeting at Government Headquarters.

"I know that we have supported in the past few weeks, but we stand now in a position where we can bolster that support," Lara said.

"We are one family in the Caribbean. If you suffer, we suffer. If we could pick someone off the floor then that's what we'll do. I'm going to go back and make sure that we take the right message back."
