Our bodies talk to us every minute telling us our state of health or disease. The problem is we are not taught how to understand the body's language or we simply don't pay attention for whatever reasons. Here are five signs your body may be nutrient deficient.

  1. Cracks at the corners of your mouth. A possible sign of iron, zinc and B-vitamin (niacin, riboflavin and B12) or that you are lacking enough protein. Consume more eggs, chicken, Alaskan salmon and tahini.

  2. Hair loss and red scaly rash especially on your face. A sign of biotin (vitB7) deficiency. Raw egg yolks, avocado ,nuts and bananas are some of the best sources of biotin.

  3. Red or white acne –like bumps on your cheeks, arms, thighs or buttocks. A sign of deficiency in essential fatty acid like omega-3s as well as vitamin A and vitamin D. eat more sardines or salmon for the omega 3s; leafy green veggies, sweet potatoes and carrots for the vitamin A; and soak up sunshine for the vitamin D.

  4. Tingling prickling and numbness in hands and feet. A possible sign of B vitamin deficiency particularly folate, B6 and B12. Eat your spinach, beets eggs and chicken to counteract it.

  5. Muscle cramping in your toes, arches back of legs and arches of the feet. A sign of deficiencies in magnesium, calcium and potassium. Eat more almonds squash, leafy greens and apples.
