Thomas Poponne Jr, from the Fond Cole area is expected to return to the Roseau High Court on Friday, February 26, 2021 to face sentencing for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Poponne Jr pleaded guilty to maliciously and unlawfully causing grievous bodily harm to Gerald Etienne with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Etienne. The incident occurred at Fond Cole on Saturday November 24, 2012. Counsel Peter Alleyne on behalf of the Legal Aid Clinic represented Poponne Jr for the purpose of his arraignment before resident judge Justice Wynante Adrien Roberts on Friday January 22, 2021.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Evelina Baptiste represented the state. Judge Adrien –Roberts ordered a social inquiry report and asked counsel to provide submissions prior to the sentencing date. The DPP withdrew a second charge of unlawful wounding.

Discontinued

Garth James Lewis who is currently on remand at the Stock Farm Prison had a matter of taking a conveyance without permission discontinued by the State represented by the DPP on Friday January 22.

Counsel Alleyne had no objection to the charge being dropped. Justice Adrien-Roberts reminded Lewis of his taking the Suzuki jeep and accessories and features of Christopher Dangleben valued at $27,257 at Fond Cole in January 2013.

Lewis was, however, unable to leave the court as he was still in custody of the State on remand for another matter.
