Former parliamentarian Phillip K. Williams laid to rest

The late Phillip K. Williams was laid to rest during an on official funeral on Saturday, April 18, 2015, Press Attaché Daryl Titre said in a press statement.

The Government of Dominica declared Saturday, April 18, 2015 an official day of mourning as a mark of respect for the late Williams, a former Senator in the House of Assembly.

The Dominican Flag was flown half-staff on all public buildings in the State on the day of mourning, Saturday, April 18, 2015.

On November 3, 1978 Williams was nominated by the Dominica Freedom Party to serve as a Senator in the House of Assembly, a position he held till June 26, 1979. He was also a member of the Laplaine Village Council from 1963 to 2000 serving as Chairman from 1967 to 1997.

In 1997 Williams was awarded Dominica's third highest award, the Meritorious Service Award. He worked as an agriculturist, overseer, insurance agent and farmer during his extensive career that spanned over seven decades.

Williams was born in Laplaine on December 24, 2015. He leaves to mourn his wife Stephanie and children Davenport, Earline, Ervin, Fitzroy, Gifford, Heather, Ingrid, Jefferson, Oswald, Primrose and Reginald.

His Excellency, the President Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Mrs. Skerrit, and other members of Cabinet, Alix Boyd-Knights, Speaker and other members of parliament, members of the Diplomatic Corps and other Government officials were expected to attend the official funeral.

The late Williams was laid to rest at the Laplaine CUM Cemetery.
