As part of activities to mark Dominica's 38th Anniversary of Independence, the Government of Dominica will present Meritorious Service Honours to 20 individuals.

This year, six people will receive the Sisserou Award of Honour; nine, the Meritorious Service Award; one the Service Medal of Honour; and four, the Long Service Award.

The awards will be handed out on Thursday November 03, 2016 at the National Day Parade to be held at the Windsor Park Stadium from 8:00am.

To receive the Sisserou Award of Honour:

Sir Hillary Beckles , the Vice Chancellor of The University of West Indies (Education); Dr. Curvin Ferreira of Morne Daniel (Medicine) ; Julius Timothy of Goodwill (Politics and Business); Irwin Larocque, Secretary General CARICOM (Public Service); Jennifer Astaphan, former Director General of CARICAD (Public Service) and Cecil Peter Shillingford of Bellevue Chopin (Disaster Management).

To receive the Meritorious Service Award:

Madura Walters, Paix Bouche (Education and Community Service); Margaret Albertha Jno. Baptiste, Lower King Hill (Public Service); Christopher Pacquette, Pichel (Business and Religion); Paul Alexander, Grand Bay (Community Service and Culture); Dr. John Toussaint, Goodwill Road (Agriculture and Business); Charles Watty, Wesley(Agriculture);Father Mitchel Favalier, Castle Bruce (Religion); Father Jacob Etienne Guiste, Castle Bruce (Religion); Glenda Bertrand, New Town (Early Childhood Education).

To receive the Service Medal of Honour:

Delvin Esprit, Jimmit (Sport).

To receive the Long Service Award:

Josephine Jno. Lewis, Roseau (Nursing); Christianie Bully, St. Joseph (Community Service); Althea Phillip, Imperial Road, Canefield (Nursing); Cyrus Edwards, Grand Bay (Sports).

Dominica's highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, is not being given this year.
