Danny dies, new storm to form
The Atlantic is certainly heating up.
Just as Danny, the first hurricane of the 2015 season degenerates into a trough near Guadeloupe, the National Hurricane Centre has reported that it is watching two new systems in the Atlantic.
The NHC says a new tropical depression or tropical storm may form within a day or two.
"Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a low pressure system located about 950 miles east of the Lesser Antilles continues to show signs of organization," the NHC said today. "Conditions appear favourable for development, and this system is likely to become a tropical depression or a tropical storm during the next day or so while it moves westward near 20 mph".
In addition the NHC says "a tropical wave and associated low pressure area located near the Cape Verde Islands is accompanied by disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are not expected to be conducive for significant development of this system while it moves westward at 15 to 20 mph over the next few days".
There is a 10 percent chance of formation within the next 48 hours, the NHC said.
Meanwhile, LIAT has advised that the following previously cancelled flights to and from Dominica for today, Monday, August 24, have been reinstated.
