Dominica's Cruise Industry welcomed another new cruise ship to the island when the MV Thompson Celebration made its debut on Dominica's waters on November 29, 2014 at the Cruise Ship at Bayfront in Roseau.

During the inaugural ceremony held on the ship, captain of the vessel Wojciech Ziolkowiski noted that he has already visited Dominica 20 years ago on another vessel.

"The breath taking view arriving this morning to this wonderful island was the same 20 years ago so it is absolutely wonderful," he said.

In response, Chairman of Discover Dominica Authority Benoit Bardouille acknowledging the fact that the captain of MV Thompson visited the island 20 years ago on a different vessel said "The island has preserved its greenness, we are the Nature Isle of the Caribbean and we are very proud to say so."

Bardouille indicated that work on the port has commenced to improve the facility to accommodate larger ships in the near future.

"We at the port are currently making changes and hopefully in the not so distant future this facility will also be improved because we have plans to make alterations to the dock to accommodate larger vessels coming on," he said.

"We are happy with ships like yours because we know your passengers take full advantage of being able to go ashore and explore the wonderful things we have to offer here in Dominica" said Bardouille.

He also pointed the fact that the ship was pumping water while on shore and revealed to the crew and invited guest onboard "The government of Dominica has invested and recently built a 500,000 gallon storage tank to be able to ensure irrespective of the time of day the ships can load water without affecting any other of the surrounding communities."

Furthermore, representing the Minister of Tourism, Senior Technical Officer of the Ministry of Tourism Mr. Edward Henderson said "As we continue to improve we hope that you will spread the message so that others will come to visit we are happy that you are here and hope as time goes on Dominica will become a premier destination." The ship's agent is H.H.V Whitchurch and Company Limited.
