A crowd of about 5000 watched West Indian legend Brian Lara star with 68 runs in a charity match aimed at raising funds for Dominica, a Caribbean island hard hit by Tropical Storm Erika.

Lara and other West Indies greats such as footballer Dwight Yorke, sprint star Yohan Blake, Sir Cutley Ambrose and Shiv Chanderpaul took part in the match at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday night.

Lara, 46, batted throughout the innings and scored an unbeaten 68 as the University of West Indies side made 6-154.

The West Indies Cricket Board President's XI successfully chased that total with seven wickets in hand thanks to a big-hitting innings from Kieron Pollard.

Former West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin, batsman Marlon Samuels and Dominican off-spinner Shane Shillingford were among many current players participated in the match.

Billy Doctrove, the Dominican retired ICC Elite umpire stood in the benefit match.

Each team consisted of six West Indies cricketers and five regional celebrities.

The amount raised by the event is unknown at the moment.
