Dominica's Meteorological Service has upgraded its flood watch to a flood warning for Dominica.

The warning, issued at 5.00 pm today, will continue until 6a.m. tomorrow.

The advisory was delivered because of unstable conditions generated by a tropical wave affecting Dominica and the island chain.

Dominica has been experiencing heavy showers all day especially this afternoon and the Met Office forecasts more showers and thunderstorm activity throughout tonight and Tuesday.

"The projection is for rainfall accumulation of up to 2 inches and higher amounts in elevated areas," the Met Office said in bulletin. "Flash flooding is therefore possible."

Silted and or blocked water-ways are likely to promote flooding and landslides, the bulletin said.

"Persons in communities that are prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should be extremely vigilant and take all precautionary measures to protect life and property. Be ready to move to higher ground. Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways and water-ways," the Met Office said.
