The National Bank of Dominica Limited (NBD), on Monday April 7th, welcomed seven interns from the National Employment Programme (NEP), a Government of Dominica initiative aimed at providing employment for qualified unemployed persons. The interns will benefit from on-the-job training for a period of six months in several departments, gaining skills in customer service, accounting, and general banking.

Acting Executive Manager, Human Resource & Organisational Development of NBD, Natasha Lugay welcomed the interns on behalf of the Bank. She explained that their stint at NBD will help the interns to broaden their experience in the job market.

"In today's ever evolving business environment knowledge and experience complement each other, with benefits from the combination being highly valued by employers, while simultaneously and perhaps more importantly, resulting in well-rounded and consequently more marketable individuals." Lugay stated further, "We do hope that the interns capitalise on this opportunity as they will only get from the experience what they put into it."

The interns will undergo an orientation programme designed to familiarize them with the Bank's procedures and culture prior to officially commencing their duties.

Coordinator of the NEP, Gloria Joseph thanked the bank for its decision to participate in the programme.

"We are extremely pleased that NBD has stepped forward to support the NEP. This will assist us in achieving our goals to prepare our citizens for employment, reduce unemployment and thereby contribute to the development of our country," she said.

NBD has played various significant roles in the development of Dominica and Dominicans over the years, targeting communities, youth, businesses and individuals. The Bank sees participation in the National Employment Programme as a way to play a vital role in the development of Dominica's economy.
