Rotary Club of Portsmouth installs new board

The Rotary Club of Portsmouth Installation of the new board was held at The Champs in Picard at 7 pm., 31st of July. The Honorable Ian Douglas was present to witness this event along with visiting Rotarians from the Rotary Club Dominica.

The ceremony began with an opening prayer by Rotarian Shirley, followed by a welcome by the Chairperson, Rotarian Andre. Our acting Past President, Rotarian Lise made an address, outlining the Rotary Club of Portsmouth history and what the club has accomplished in their 3 years of existence. Rotarian Lise then introduced the new President, Rotarian Morrison.

Rotary Assistant District Governor, AG Haynes, was present to swear in and place the Rotarian pins on the new President and new Board members followed by pinning all other Rotary members.

Rotarian Catherine introduced two new members, Jennifer Swaim and Marvlyn Valentine and presented them with their citations, oaths and pins.

The Rotary Club of Portsmouth new board members are: President -Morrison Azille, Vice President - Lise van de Kamp, Secretary – Matilda Carty, Treasurer – Trish Edwards, Projects Chair – Gregor Nassief, PR – Hans Schilders, Foundations Chair – John Hawley and Membership Chair – Catherine Joseph Karam.

Following the ceremony, the Rotary Club of Portsmouth held their 3rd annual Raffle Draw to raise funds for two large projects including a sanitation project for Calibishie, (installing 60 toilets and septic tanks into private homes, which the Government of Dominica has pledged to provide the materials), and the Portsmouth Emergency Room remodeling. Ross University School of Medicine is a partner with the Rotary Club of Portsmouth for the emergency room project, supplying various new equipment and assistance.

The Grand Prize was won by a student at Ross University, Lovepreet Singh.

Other prizes were supplied by Secret Bay Resorts, Rosalie Bay Resorts, Fort Young Hotel, Hotel The Champs, Trinity Taxi Service, Lobster Palace Restaurant (Sunset Bay), Dominica Marine Center, Romance Café, Tomato Restaurant, Lindy's Advance Massage, Jewelers International, Whitchurch Portsmouth (IGA), Cobra Tours & Yacht Service and Kathryne's Restaurant.
