West Indies Championship 2025: Volcanoes to Play in Dominica with Local Talent on Display
Cricket fans in Dominica will have much to cheer about as Windsor Park is set to host the Windward Islands Volcanoes in a crucial third-round clash of the West Indies Championship 2025. The Volcanoes will take on Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) from February 12–15, allowing local supporters to witness high-quality regional cricket firsthand.
Adding to the excitement, four Dominican cricketers, Gilon Tyson,Kharmal Hamilton, Jervin Benjamin and Stephan Pascal, are part of the Windward Islands Volcanoes squad, bringing homegrown talent to the field. Their presence in the lineup adds an extra layer of pride for Dominicans, who will be eager to see them perform on home soil.
A Fierce Battle for the Headley Weekes Trophy
The championship, which began on January 29, features seven rounds of competition, culminating in a grand finale in April. Teams are vying for the prestigious Headley Weekes Trophy and a substantial prize pool—$250,000 for the champions and $100,000 for the runners-up. Defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles enter the tournament with an impressive track record, having won seven titles in the past nine years.
This year's edition brings together top regional teams, including traditional powerhouses like Barbados Pride, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, and Jamaica Scorpions, alongside emerging challengers like the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and the West Indies Academy. The Volcanoes, captained by Sunil Ambris, will aim to make their mark in the tournament.
Exciting Matches Across the Region
The opening round saw intense battles across the Caribbean, with matches hosted in Guyana, Trinidad, Antigua, and St. Vincent. The second round (February 5–8) will see the Volcanoes take on Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at Arnos Vale, St. Vincent, before their highly anticipated homecoming match in Dominica.
