Snacks can pack on pounds and increase our sugar and salt quotas quickly. While sitting in front of TV, commercials abound showing nutrient deplete snacks that look…. oh so good.

So here are some healthy snack choices that boost energy and curb hunger!

  • Almond or peanut butter and apple slices. Spread these nut butter on slices of your favorite apple to find a new delicious treat. Apples also compliment white cheddar or cottage cheese.

  • Cherry tomatoes and a hard boiled egg. You will be surprised at how this combo will satisfy your "munch craving" with a little salt on both.

  • Red grapes and gouda cheese. Anti-oxident rich grapes pair nicely with protein packed cheese. Did you know Gouda has the highest levels of vitamin k than any other cheese?

  • Dried fruits and nuts. Anti -oxidants rich nuts and sweet taste of dried fruits can be very satisfying.

  • Veggie and dip. A classic at most parties, slices of any veggies with hummus or salsa dips are always a hit.

  • Cold chicken with Tzatzik. If you aren't vegetarian, spread a few slices of leftover chicken with the Greek sauce Tzatzik made with cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil and yogurt. It's easy to make at home just look up the recipe online.

  • Guacamole. Another party favorite, easy to make and nutrient dense. Mash up an avocado with some tomato, lime juice and salt and enjoy with pita or plantain chips.

  • Stuffed avocado. You can't go wrong with heart healthy avocado. Cut one in half, remove the pit, fill the center with salsa or cottage cheese.

  • Dark chocolate and raspberries. No more milk chocolate when dark is so much more nutritious. Couple the dark with raspberries –pure delicious.

  • Dried coconut. Rich in healthful fats and minerals. Coconut is king in my world! Look for unsweetened varieties or make your own.
