Martinique is Windwards Women Football Champs

Martinique are the new champions of the Windward Islands Women Football Tournament held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium last weekend.

Martinique was invited to participate in the tournament after St Lucia and Grenada pulled out for financial reasons.

The French team defeated Dominica 5-0 on Sunday.

Martinique and St Vincent & the Grenadines ended the tournament on four points, with Martinique capturing the title on a better goal difference. At the closing ceremony, Martinique walked away with three individual awards to include best defender, best midfielder and best striker.

St Vincent & the Grenadines received best goalkeeper and MVP of the tournament.

Dominica lost the matches that they played.

Meantime Dominica bowed out of the CFU U-20 boy's qualifiers when they lost their third straight match on Sunday 4-2 against St Kitts and Nevis.
